Pet Tags Reuniting Families

By donating to this program, you're helping us provide free pet ID tags to people reclaiming their pets and to new adopters! Your generosity means more pets will find their way back home, to the families who love them.

According to the ASPCA, approximately 6.3 million pets enter U.S. shelters each year (3.1 million dogs and 3.2 million cats). Shockingly, only about 810,000 animals who arrive as strays are successfully reunited with their owners.

High Country Humane is the contracted animal shelter for the City of Flagstaff and Coconino County. We operate 365 days a year to care for abandoned, neglected, sick, and injured animals; reunite lost pets with their families; and provide adoption services and vital resources to our community. In 2024 alone, we took in 3,439 animals, 2,312 of them were strays. Sadly, only 668 of those pets made it back home.

Our goal is to increase the "Return to Owner" (RTO) rate in the communities we serve. Thanks to your generous support, we were able to purchase a pet tag engraver for our shelter! We're now committed to providing free engraved tags to people reclaiming their pets and to new pet parents at the time of adoption.

A pet wearing a tag is far more likely to be returned directly to their family, often without ever needing to come to the shelter. And that’s exactly what we want. The best place for a pet is at home with the people who love them, NOT in a kennel at an already full shelter.

You can help us reach this goal by donating to this life-saving program. Every dollar goes toward tags, rings, collars, and maintenance for the engraving machine. Together, we can make a paws-itive impact in our community and help more pets find their way home!
